Traveling Europe - Rome!

We arrived in Rome late Tuesday night and finally made it to our hotel around 1 AM.  The next morning we slept in and took naps and then headed off to the Vatican in the afternoon!  We were in Rome Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then flew out Saturday morning.  We had such a fabulous time!  See pics and descriptions below!
I always book hotels that have cribs.  When we arrived at our bed and breakfast in Rome I discovered their definition of crib was a small bed with no side rails.  Obviously this would not work for Tyson and I was very stressed about it, but he slept great on blankets on the floor for four nights!

The Vatican Museum was awesome!  As it is nine miles, we took a 2-hour guided tour that picked out the highlights to made it a little more manageable.

The art work was fabulous!

We loved St. Peter's Basilica.  It is so gorgeous inside.

Tyson was getting antsy so we put him on the floor in St. Peter's so he could scoot around.  Pretty soon he had a small audience surrounding him taking pictures and vidoes.  Tyson's scooting and the way he babbles a mile a minute always draws a crowd!

Outside St. Peter's Basilica.

Also outside the Basilica.

We stopped to see the Castle Sant'Angelo.

On Thursday we visited the church of St. Maria Maggiore.  The ceiling was stunning.

We also visited the beautiful church of St. Giovanni in Laterno.

Next we hit up the Colosseum.  What an awesome place!

Down at the bottom of the Colosseum.

We visited Capitoline Hill.

I love the streets of Rome... narrow cobblestone streets with outdoor cafes and people selling artwork and other things.  So picturesque!

We visited the amazing Pantheon!

We stopped to relax on the Spanish Steps!

Tyson loves eating in a high chair and hates eating on someone's lap.  No matter how good a restaurant looks, I'm very unlikely to want to eat there if they don't have highchairs!

Two hungry boys scarfing down some pizza.  We ate pizza and pasta for three days straight.  So delicious!

On Friday morning we went to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.  These ruins are awesome!

A view of the Roman Forum!

A view of the city from Palatine Hill.

Next we hit up Camp de Fiori, a marketplace, where we ate lunch and got some yummy fruit.

Next we were off to Piazza Navona.  I loved this piazza!

With a couple extra hours we strolled the streets of Trastevere, a lovely neighborhood southwest of the touristy part of Rome.
What a great few days we had in Rome!  Saturday morning we flew to Switzerland and we will be here until Wednesday.  More updates to come!
